Wedding Cake is an indica-leaning hybrid bred by Seed Junky Genetics from Triangle Kush and Animal Mints. Originally catalogued as Triangle Mints #23, it's known for a sweet vanilla-frosting nose over earthy pepper, and Leafly named it Strain of the Year in 2019. In the UK it's available from The Bud Works as a lab-tested THCA hash tea.

Where Wedding Cake came from

Wedding Cake came out of Seed Junky Genetics, the California breeding house run by JBeezy, the same programme behind Permanent Marker. It started life as a numbered selection from Seed Junky's Triangle Mints line: Triangle Mints #23.

The name came later. It's widely credited to the Jungle Boys in Los Angeles, who picked up the cut and named it for its unmistakable vanilla cake-frosting aroma. The name stuck, the strain spread across US menus, and in 2019 Leafly named it Strain of the Year. In Canada you'll sometimes see it sold as Pink Cookies.

A numbered test cut that got a better name, then became one of the most copied dessert strains of its era.

Wedding Cake genetics and lineage

Wedding Cake is Triangle Kush x Animal Mints: an old-school Florida Kush crossed into Seed Junky's own Cookies-and-Mints line.

Triangle Kush is a Florida-bred OG Kush descendant, named after the state's "triangle" of Jacksonville, Tampa and Melbourne. It brings the grounding, earthy, peppery side of the profile.

Animal Mints is a Seed Junky cross of Animal Cookies and SinMint Cookies, both from the Girl Scout Cookies family. It supplies the sweetness, the doughy vanilla note and the faint cool mint that keeps Wedding Cake from being purely a dessert profile. Animal Mints also turns up in Kush Mints, one of the parents of Blue Zushi.

Is Wedding Cake indica or sativa?

It's a hybrid that leans indica. Triangle Kush brings a Kush-heavy, indica-leaning structure and Animal Mints comes from the Cookies family, so strain databases generally list it as an indica-dominant hybrid.

Worth knowing

Indica and sativa describe plant ancestry and structure more than anything you can predict about a product. The terpene profile tells you far more. More in Sativa, Indica, Hybrid: Do They Still Matter?

Wedding Cake terpene profile

Our current batch is led by three terpenes, in this order:

LeadsCaryophyllenePeppery · spicy · warm

The earthy pepper underneath the sweetness, carried mostly by the Triangle Kush side. The only common terpene known to bind directly to the CB2 receptor.

SupportsMyrceneEarthy · herbal · soft

Rounds the profile out and gives it body, so the vanilla sits on something rather than floating.

LiftsLimoneneCitrus · bright · tangy

The light tang on top that stops the sweetness from getting heavy.

What does Wedding Cake smell like?

Sweet and creamy first: vanilla, cake batter and a hint of butter, which is exactly where the name comes from. Underneath there's an earthy, peppery depth from the Kush side and a faint cool mint from Animal Mints.

It's one of the easier profiles to like on first encounter. Sweet enough to be approachable, with enough pepper and earth underneath to stay interesting.

Why is it called Wedding Cake?

For the vanilla-frosting aroma. The Jungle Boys are generally credited with renaming the Triangle Mints #23 cut, and the new name did a lot to make it famous. Its Canadian alias, Pink Cookies, nods to the Cookies side of the family.

Wedding Cake as a THCA hash tea

At The Bud Works, Wedding Cake is a pressed THCA hash tea. Our current batch is lab tested at 26.2% THCA, led by caryophyllene, myrcene and limonene, with Delta-9 THC at or below the 0.2% UK limit. The full certificate of analysis is on the product page.

Pressed hash releases its aroma steadily through a steep:

First minute

Sweet vanilla and creamy, baked notes come through first.

Minutes 2–3

Earthy pepper builds underneath the sweetness.

By minute 5

A faint cool mint and a light citrus tang round it off.

Brewing tip

Around 80°C rather than a rolling boil keeps more of the volatile limonene and caryophyllene. Full method in Making the Cup.

Intended for hot-water herbal tea infusion only. Not for combustion.

Wedding Cake's family and similar profiles

Wedding Cake is also a parent in its own right. Crossed with Gelato #33 it produced Ice Cream Cake, which we stock as a live resin tea extract.
