Stardawg is a hybrid bred by Top Dawg Seeds from Chemdog 4 and Tres Dawg. It's known for a loud chemical-and-diesel nose over earthy pine, and it has been one of the most recognised names in British cannabis culture for well over a decade. In the UK it's available from The Bud Works as a lab-tested THCA hash tea.

Where Stardawg came from

Stardawg was bred by JJ of Top Dawg Seeds, one of the breeders most closely tied to the Chemdog family. Top Dawg first stabilised a Chem D line into seed form as Tres Dawg, then spent several years working it back into Chemdog 4. Stardawg was the result.

It became a fixture in the US through the 2010s, but its biggest second life was in Britain. "Stardawg" turned into almost a byword for gassy flower here, so plenty of what's been sold under the name over the years wasn't the real Chemdog 4 x Tres Dawg genetics. The original still sets the bar.

Chemical, diesel and pine. You know it from the first pour.

Stardawg genetics and lineage

Stardawg is Chemdog 4 x Tres Dawg, which makes it Chemdog on both sides of the family.

Chemdog 4 is one of the original numbered Chemdog cuts, part of the family behind Sour Diesel and OG Kush. It brings the sharp, chemical, diesel-forward top end.

Tres Dawg is Top Dawg's Chem D crossed to an Afghani line. It adds the earthy pine and a heavier, more rounded base to the Chem character.

Is Stardawg indica or sativa?

It's a hybrid, often described as leaning sativa. Leafly lists it simply as a hybrid, while some growers and reviewers call it sativa-dominant.

Worth knowing

Indica and sativa describe plant ancestry and structure more than anything you can predict about a product. The terpene profile tells you far more. More in Sativa, Indica, Hybrid: Do They Still Matter?

Stardawg terpene profile

Our current batch is led by three terpenes, in this order:

LeadsCaryophyllenePeppery · warm · spicy

The peppery, sour backbone that runs under the whole Chem profile. The only common terpene known to bind directly to the CB2 receptor.

SupportsLimoneneCitrus · bright · sharp

Sharpens the sour edge and gives the diesel a brighter, almost citrus bite.

RoundsMyrceneEarthy · herbal · musky

Fills out the earthy pine underneath, from the Afghani side of Tres Dawg.

Terpene order varies by batch and grower. New to terpenes? Start with Terpenes: What They Are and Why They Matter.

What does Stardawg smell like?

Chemical and diesel first, loud and immediate. Earthy pine runs alongside, with pepper and sour undertones underneath.

It isn't sweet and doesn't try to be. Stardawg is for people who want the classic Chem profile done properly.

Why is it called Stardawg?

The "dawg" comes from its Chemdog family. The "star" is usually put down to the plant's bright, star-like trichome coverage, which blankets the buds so heavily they look frosted.

Stardawg as a THCA hash tea

At The Bud Works, Stardawg is a pressed THCA hash tea. Our current batch is lab tested at 26% THCA, led by caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene, with Delta-9 THC at or below the 0.2% UK limit. The full certificate of analysis is on the product page.

Pressed hash releases its aroma steadily through a steep:

First minute

Chemical and diesel notes come off the cup straight away.

Minutes 2–3

Earthy pine builds alongside the fuel.

By minute 5

Pepper and a sour undertone settle in at the finish.

Brewing tip

Around 80°C rather than a rolling boil keeps more of the volatile limonene and caryophyllene. Full method in Making the Cup.

Intended for hot-water herbal tea infusion only. Not for combustion.
